Welcome to the website of Spanish violinist Natanael Rebollo Díaz. Natanael is passionate about music in its different forms. He enjoys from traditional classical music, through baroque gut string playing to cutting-edge, collaborative, new projects. As a classical trained musician, he has played in chamber groups as Birmania String Quartet, Rebollo String Quartet, Iberian Quintet and London International Quintet as well as in several orchestras both in Spain and the UK. He has also taken part in cross-art innovative projects ‘Touch, Listen, Play, Know’ and London SoundPainting Orchestra. On the most modern side of his career, Natanael has played with nu-disco band ‘Hercules and Love Affair’ at Meltdown Southbank Festival of the World and with electro-rock band SideFields.
Natanael Rebollo Díaz was born in Seville, Spain, in April 1986. He started to learn violin at the age of 6 and entered the conservatoire at 8 in his hometown. He completed all his violin studies, obtaining a Bachelor (Hons) in Music at Conservatorio Superior de Música 'Manuel Castillo' de Sevilla. Later, he moved to London, where he studied his Master in Music at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
He has received lessons from well-known international teachers as Tamara Berktemirova (Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville), Esther Hoppe (Munich Chamber Orchestra), Mauro Rossi (Spanish National Orchestra), Giovanni Fabris (Genoa Carlo Felice Theater Orchestra), Alexander Vasiliev (Asturias Symphony Orchestra), Arcadi Futer (Moscow Virtuosi). Additionally, Natanael has attended baroque violin courses with Pedro Gandía (Baroque Orchestra of Seville) and Walter Reiter (Linden Baroque Orchestra of London).
He has been a member of the Young Orchestra of Andalusia for seven years, playing with conductors as Michael Thomas and Pedro Halfter. As a result, he has played in several theatres of Andalusia and taken part in important festivals and events as the 5th Spanish Musical Festival of Cadiz, 15th Series of Contemporary Music of Malaga, 15th Flamenco Biennal of Seville and the Opera Series of the Maestranza Theatre of Seville. He has also played with the TrinityLaban Chamber Orchestra for a live broadcast for the BBC Radio 3, TrinityLaban String Ensemble and TrinityLaban Symphony Orchestra.
As a professional, he has played with the Manuel Castillo Chamber Orchestra in a regular basis, performing in a number of concert venues along Andalusia. Once in London he has played with the London Firebird Orchestra, Orpheus Orchestra and North London Symphony Orchestra amongst others. He has also founded the Birmania String Quartet taking part in the II Joaquín Turina International Chamber Music Festival of Seville with it and giving a series of concerts along the city. He has also co-founded and played with the Iberian Quintet and the London International Quintet. Moreover, he has played with Harpist Giulia Rettore and has formed a duo with the Spanish pianist Lucía Álvarez Núñez with whom he was finalist in the Leonard Smith Duo Competition 2012.
Furthermore, Natanael is interested in cross-art collaboration and cutting-edge proyects. He is a member of the London Sound Painting Orchestra, a cutting-edge conducted improvisation project. He has also collaborated with choreographer Eleonora Pennacchini and dancer Virginia Scudeletti to create 'Touch, Listen, Play, Know', a choreograph for a dancer and a violinist where they merge in a particular encounter of live music and dance. They have performed this piece in the Bonnie Bird Theatre and the Iris Theatre. Moreover, he has played with nu-disco band ‘Hercules and Love Affair’ at Meltdown Southbank Festival of the World and is taking part in the development of electro-rock band SideFields.
